While it may be time consuming to open up the CPU of your computer, most of the problems that you encounter with your PC doesn’t require you to open the CPU case. Hardware problems can be taken care of just as easily as it may sound. Like when your USB port on your keyboard sometime detect or not detect a certain device plugged in. Its true that the USB port place on the keyborad is very convenient fot he user, but this advantage compromises the reliability of the devices plugged in. Basically, the reason why it is inconsistent is because of power shortage. That’s because USB ports not just connects any device to the PC, but it also is the source of power of the plugged in device. It is responsible for delivering electricity to the gadget. Usually, USB ports are self powered and doesnt need extra supply from the CPU to run devices. But some USB ports have no power on their own, specifically a keyboard. Some USB devices require less power to run, those are the things that will most likely run on the USB, but others need a bigger electricity supply thats why it will not run in the port. The only thing to do is to connect this power hungry USB devices to the self powered ports usuall installed in the CPU or at its back portion.

Oh my gosh! I see dead monitors! Check these things before you panic.

The first thing to you need to know is whether you have power available to your PC. Are the LED lights on the system case lit and is the power supply fan blowing?
Is there power from your main socket wall? Plug another appliance into it. If it turns on, then you have power there.
Are you using surge protector? Try bypassing this. Try to plug it in the main.
Check on the PC’s power cable.
Most PCs have an On/Off switch at the back of the case. Make sure it is turned on.

All of these steps are to check for Power within your PC sysytem. If somehow these doesnt work, try checking on a certain Windows application called Advanced Power Management or APM. Try to research and tweak a bit. Maybe its because of a nisconfigured setting all along.

One way to get maximum performance out of your computer is to use over-clocking. Over-clocking is a manner of increasing your computer’s speed in order to accomplish tasks more quickly and efficiently. Clocking is the amount of clock cycles a computer goes through per minute as it processes things. Increasing the number of clock cycles per minute makes your computer capable of processing more things concurrently, or concentrates on one task and complete it more quickly.

This is especially helpful if you are running games or video editing applications. The obvious benefit to over-clocking is that you do not frequently have to purchase upgrades. Many people choose to purchase a less expensive computer-processing unit (CPU) and then over-clock it rather than buying a newer unit or one with more memory. It is promising to over-clock assorted components dependent upon your initiative.

A deeper look into the power issue can be traced back into a faulty power supply. These power supplies are often cheap, so do not go out rushing just to replace your computer yet. If you are convinced that this is not the problem, or you do not really feel comfortable in replacing your own power supply, your only option would be to bring it to your local computer shop. The typical cost for the installation of a new power supply is less than 100 dollars.

If your computer turns on all right but it doesn’t operate properly, you are receiving strange errors, or it’s moving sluggishly, then maybe you need to clean up the Windows registry or junk some files.

Computer Basics : Essential for troubleshooting Part-1

Written on 1 June 2008 by

pctt5.jpgIt is true that not many people know how to tinker with their computers which doesnt mean that one cannot handle minor repairs. Repairs and preventive maintenance such as cleaning can be carried out by you and me with the most elementary of cleaning tools and a little elbow grease to go with them. First, to ensure you experience less problems try to get the computer CPU cleaned at least once a year. If you live in a dusty environment or if you have a Fido or Fifi in he house then this might become a regular routine. Before you take off the cover which is normally screwed down ( be sure to check for any warranty seals on the casing, breaking them would void the warranty terms) with four Phillips type screws be sure the power chord is removed and all devices are unplugged from the respective connections (tip: if you assume that you wont be able to return all those wires to the proper places, get hold of your camera phone or digital camera and take a few shots as a visual record). Slide the cover off to get a glimpse of the innards of your personal computer.

Do Not Overload your Power Supply

Written on 25 May 2008 by

Contrary to what some people believe that they can place different peripherals on their computer, it remains that you have to consider the power capacity of your CPU power supply and make sure that it can handle all the load.

Normally, people would upgrade the power capacity of their power supply for the reason that they want allowance on what power requirements they will need when operating their system. With all the new enhancements and add-on of computers today, you should not be surprised when the time comes your power supply may conk out due to overload of resources. They also have their limits.

Moving Old Files to your Slave Disk

Written on 21 May 2008 by

Normally, you will find yourself running out of space when folders such as you’re documents directory would soon be filled up. People want to leave their files in their directory since most of the time that is the first directory that applications such as Word and Excel would point to.

You can do one of two things. One of which is to change the target directory of your software via the options or preferences panel or second, just make another directory on the secondary hard drive to serve as historical files data. That is why when you format your hard disk, it would be best to split it into two so that in these cases, you have a logical way of storing files as archived ones.

Saving up the Available Slots of your Motherboard

Written on 19 May 2008 by

When you get a new computer, you will notice that you will have free slots for additional peripherals such as network cards, TV cards, or modems. While most of the time these slots are not used, it may come to a point when you may use up all of them and then run out of space.

With that in mind, you may be thinking that perhaps it would be better to get motherboards with more slots. Actually, you can simply categorize the add-ons you need. Sometimes, people just want to satisfy their enthusiasm with these slots. It does not always follow that you should have the latest peripherals for the sake of bragging rights. Besides, they will go passé at some point in time anyway.
